I think just looking at the piercing eyes on the cover tells you that this is not a book that was intended to be easy. When I first wrote Archie’s Psalm during my graduate school MFA program, the book had over 500 pages. It was trimmed down to 400 for publication and eventually trimmed to 300 for the novel that is now in print. Archie’s Psalm draws inspiration directly from my life. Set in North Memphis in the late 70s during the hot and humid summer, the book is a coming of age story. A narrative that is never exactly what it seems, the book has a number of twists that will make you want to reread the book to catch all of the underlying themes and subplots.
