Apple is exploring the possibility of buying Tidal to boost its Apple Music streaming service, eyeing Tidal’s strong affiliation with subscriber-attracting major artists such as Jay Z, Beyonce, and Coldplay. The WSJ’s Lee Hawkins explains.
I have a question, should Jay-Z sell? Tidal is an artist owned platform. The Government just upheld the same standards for music royalties which means that artists still aren’t being paid accordingly for their work (especially when it comes to YouTube)… but that’s not quite right and is a different discussion.
I know that Apple bought Beats for 3 billion, so I guess if the wealth will be spread through the artists who have ownership and they will still garner royalties, maybe the smart thing is to have an exit strategy. Either way, the rich get richer.
